I had absolutely no idea that this was the true story behind Vince's death. How incredibly sad. May he rest in peace.

maybe i'm an insensitive prick...but welnick being too wierd and strung out for the grateful dead...it's like asking how much of a drunk did dave mustaine have to be kicked out of metallica. it is too bad that he had to go out that way. and i do emphathize with people who have both been in that frame of mind and those who have tried to help. regardless it is a tragic loss.

i never really appreciated vince with the dead, but listening to david gans' two part tribute gave me some new insight to the quality of music vince produced. anyway, depression is a deadly disease and it is a sad story, regardless of how we felt about vince's contributions to the dead. he was a cool freak and had impact in two influential bands
